Frequently Asked Questions about Cook County E-Filing
General Information

  How do I handle summonses?

Filers may select an option to have “Electronic service by the Sheriff” of their summons as part of the e-Filing process. Selecting the option would allow the filer to electronically file their document and send their summons to the Clerk’s Office. The Clerk’s Office would then apply the “FILED” stamp to the filing and the seal to the summons. The Clerk’s Office would then print and hand-deliver the filing and summons to the Sheriff’s Office. If a filer selects this option, the filer’s credit card will be charged or checking account debited for the appropriate fees. Alternatively, a filer may print the summons and hand-deliver it to the Sheriff’s Office for service and pay the appropriate fee there.
